Urbanrail.net consider it to be a full rapid transit system, while others, like World Metro List, The International Association of Public Transport, and Bombardier, indicate that the S-Bahn is a suburban or commuter railway system.
↑The green line, also known as Athens-Piraeus Electric Railway, was opened in 1869 as a steam train railway line. It was electrified in 1904, extended with underground sections through the city in the 1950's, and extended to its full length in 1957. The blue and red lines opened in 2000. Full metro operation since 1904 or 1957 according to UrbanRail.net. The green line is 25,6 km, red line 10,9 km, and blue line 16,4 km (according to official webpages). The blue line also has a 21.2 km part (with 4 stations) to the airport that is shared with the suburban railway system. Light rail lines spans along 28 kilometers; thus the metro network is 294 kilometers.
